Hey folks. Trying to buy an Emac on Facebook but the seller says imported and runs on 230v. Apparently it says 230v on the bottom. I would think it has a switching power supply so the writing doesn’t matter and it should work in the USA??
Lots of switching PSUs are voltage-specific: if it says 230V, then don't run it on American power for sure!
There may be a way to reconfigure the PSU on the inside --- something like a jumper you can move, which you find on some PSUs. But you always want to be certain with stuff like this; if you're not certain, it's probably a bad idea to hope for the best and try it.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, i wasn’t going to buy it if it can’t be turned on to test it. The seller wasn’t sure if it’s safe to turn on, and based on your reply it sounds like it might be risky. Thanks again.
...and even if its 230v only, all you'd need is a good quality (sufficient current rating on output) Step-Up transformer. They are basically the same as we use over here in UK to Step-down our voltage to US 115v - we just use them the other way 'round.
I'd still start with asking for a photo of the label.
