eMac Power Supply Issues

Of course, running Apple hardware test didn't come to mind until after I'd did some blowdrying.

No results yet from the blowdrying, but only did it for five minutes or so.

I've pretty much decided to replace the capacitors. It's workable for now, so I will put it on a lower priority until it gets worse. At least I now know what's wrong with it.

Thank you all for your help! I was ambivalent in signing up here, but I finally took the plunge and it has turned up tons of valuable information. I really appreciate this opportunity, and I hope to stick around in this forum for a long while yet.

if the picture still looks like a bowtie after blowdrying the entire analog board, then most likely you had a transistor or something fail in the pincussion circuit.

if it is the IVAD cable, then use the old poor-mans trick of wire and aluminum foil wrapping around the IVAD cable, then electrical tape up the wrapping with a wire attached, extruding from the tape to be grounded. the shielding failed in the early runs of the cables. This could be a fix if wiggling the cable doesnt change the results.

Usually, the raster bounces and shifts all over the place if this cable is at fault. Try it. a large majority of 700mhz eMacs were affected with the IVAD cable issue from what I see.

If that dont take care of the issue, then time to troubleshoot the pincushion circuit components for opens and shorts.
