eBay nastiness

Well, never eBay surprises me. My own fault. Se/30 parts or repair came with a POS crt with broken vacuum tube, Dead SE logic board, and a POS analog board, the flyback is screwed. Not one good piece on this unit except the f-ing case lol...what a crap shoot..oh well, thats the gamble on parts or repair...

Where are you in Ontario? You’ve been posting a few threads requesting parts. I’ve got some stuff from a Plus and 6100 I no longer need. It’s sometimes better to buy local than having to deal with some unnecessary aggravation on FleaBay.

Ever bought one of those PCI card lots? Don't.

Untested? They mean "a collection of all the cards that smoked, stopped the computer booting or just didn't work". Only good if you are willing to do board repairs or component recovery.

Yea that's a shame. I'd be very upset. The fact they went through the trouble of putting a dead SE board in there shows their motive. The rest could be explained away with age or wear. I'd want a refund or open a dispute.

Yep, the worst things I've bought have been the untested/spares/repair type ones, thankfully I only go for those if the price is very low.

Why not? I can write "purple" on something that is orange, doesn't make it purple. Writing "parts repair" on something doesn't mean I can sell an broken SE with POS parts shoved in a case as an SE/30. Don't let them tell you not to hold them accountable.

I'd suggest opening discussion with them and renegotiate as it isn't what it was sold as. I.e. it isn't parts for an SE/30 and it isn't possible to repair it.

What have you got to lose? Open a discussion with the seller. It was sold as SE/30 parts and it is not.

Yeah he is being a complete ass.. he listing seemed to change from when i first read it too. So who knows, let ebay decide i guess. Will have to be more careful in the future.

If the listing details changed then that will likely be in your favour too, I’ve had that before and ended up getting my money back.

In April 2020 I bought an SE/30 on auction that showed it was working. It arrived and it was an SE board inside an SE/30 case. The seller claimed he was just reselling for a friend, and as far as he was concerned it was MY problem it wasn’t an SE/30 board inside.

I let him know that’s not how eBay works and told him I’d be happy to open a case and have it shipped back to him instead, which would be on his dime.

After a day or two he got back to me and refunded me down to where I paid (can’t remember the exact cost) something like $125 for the SE in SE/30 case. The whole situation while communicating made me sick to deal with the guy because of how rude he was. Every time I’d look at the thing it reminded me of the hassle. I ended up trading it to someone with a non-working SE/30 board inside that worked when it had pressure placed on a couple of chips, which is possibly repairable.

Bottom line is: don’t let crappy sellers get away with it, even if it’s just to receive some sort of refund and end up keeping it.

Will echo what others have said. Allowing bad sellers to get away with deceptive behaviour means they're likely to do it again to someone else. Dispute it, and do so with confidence.

Was it shown that it only had a SE board inside or a SE/30 in the auction description . Was it shown in the profile of the system was powered on? Was it asked if it had a SE/30 board? A lot was left out. Sounds like a typical buyer that looks for any excuse to get money back! And a seller that had no idea what was being sold. Happens a lot.

eBay is pretty aggressive when it comes to protecting buyers. The flip side is that it makes it difficult for sellers to deal with scammers. If anything about the auction doesn't match the description or pictures, then you can expect to get a refund pretty easily. eBay even covers return shipping.

I agree. And there’s a lot of scammers out there. It’s unfortunate.
