Dual-Boot Partition Corruption (?)

I setup a dual-boot machine in my 7100, because the most recent HD in it came with three partitions.  7.6.1 was installed on one and the other two were blank.  I put 8.5 on another one and upgraded to 8.6 yesterday.

I booted into 7.6.1 for the first time in about a week today (meaning after I upgraded to 8.6; I don't know if that is relevant - and I probably updated HD drivers now that I think of it but I also don't know if that's relevant).

The 7.6.1 partition boots normally up to the splash screen.  Then either an error or interrupt prompt comes up (I assume error), but it's just the white box and black inset outline - no text or options (at least not that are visible).

I'm booting into an Installer now to re-bless the 8.6 partition but how do I fix the 7.6.1 partition?  There's nothing on it - the third partition is non-system software - so I don't care about destroying it.  But will reinstalling actually solve the issue?

HSF/HSF+ incompatibility Issue.

System 7 is blind to HFS+. OS8 can see both HSF+ and HSF formatted partitions.

So what's the fix?

If you have Norton for System 7, use it to fix it.

If you still want OS8, you will need to delete the partitions and recreate them less than 2GB in size and format them in System 7 (HFS format) and then reinstall system 8 on those partitions.

I'm afraid rebuilding the (relevant) volume using the Norton Tools CD did not work. I have not yet been able either a) to find a copy of the NUM Emergency Tools disk that will boot on the 7100, or b ) a copy of Norton 3-2-1 that will expand with Stuffit on the 7100.

As with all things of this nature there seem to be a series of annoying and inexplicable hiccups that made this take 3 hours. Nevertheless, at the end of it, I get the same error. Also, Elfen, the disk itself is 2gb, meaning each partition is like 650ish mb or whatever, and I think they are all HFS.
