Drive diagnostic software for use on G5?

I'm trying to locate some drive diagnostic software that is good for use on OS 10.5 being run on my G5. I have some SATA drives from work that I need to run some tests on, primarily bad sector tests. The software then needs to be able to mark those sectors as unusable so that the drives can continue to be used in non-essential applications.

I know there is Disk Tools Pro, but is there anything free out there that might fit the bill?

In the Pre-G3 days, there was Silverlining. Norton Utilities also marked bad sectors. Apple's Disk Utility does this if you format the drives and zero out the sectors. It takes forever to do though.

As you may know; if some of your boot sectors are bad, it may render a good drive as bad. Apple's Disk Utility would do this.
