DP800 Quicksilver Ethernet not working??

I come. In the possession of a DP 800mhz G4 QS. It has the gigabit Ethernet and I have plugged two different LAN cables into it coming from my 8 port switch and the switch shows no activity at all and the Mac says the cable is unplugged. Is it normal for these to go bad? Is there something I can try to fix it? This is a fresh install of Tiger 10.4 too. Was the same on the previously installed software

I've tried everything I found online and nothing works. I think the jack is just dead or something. Oddly, I threw in a 3com Etherlink PCI card and it works perfectly even though it's PC hardware. Not sure about OS 9 yet but we shall see
