Downloaded Cubase

I was looking for a Macintosh Classic suitable version of Cubase and found:

I have got some questions:

1) Is this compatible with Macintosh Classic and MacMan Macintosh Midi interface from Midiman? Hope it is...could anyone confirm?

2) As I am unable to understand french, what does the text at the bottom of the page in the link about the protection of Cubase say? How is that handled?

3) As .sit files are handled by Stuffit, where do I get Stuffit from?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards...

The last paragraph says that the software is an automounting image in ShrinkWrap version 3.5.1. Unhappily, it does not run under Classic and returns an error message. It thus makes this software incompatible with later OS's.

I take that to meant that, as long as you're running under the older OS's that we all love around here, you should be ok.

I am supposed to run Cubase under System 7...is that old enough? :?:

On the other hand I have heard that it is possible to startup a Classic loading System 6.xx from the ROM pressing dunnowhat keys while on boot sequence...what about that?

As to the Mac Classic, yes, it has a stripped-down version of system 6.0.3 in ROM, so you can boot off of it. It is not a full 6.0.3, however, so there's no guarantee that a particular program will be able to run.

Thanks, tomlee59. But where could I find if cubase would certainly boot under system 7?

And again as for the protection thing...ShrinkWrap 3.5.1...I am an almost novice to mac...how could I deal with the Cubase protection, if it exists?

The best way is to stop theorizing and just try it. Load up Cubase on your System 7 mac. See if it works.

Done.

Hold down Command-Option-X-O before the happy Mac appears, and you can let go when you get a welcome to Macintosh screen. Now, you can set your start up disk to 'ROM Disk' and when you restart the Classic, you'll notice it boots very quickly! (you don't need to hold the keys if you've set it in start up disk)

One more question (sorry): Did I need Minimanager? If so, how could I get/buy it?

I don't recall if Cubase comes with Midi Manager, or if you need to download it separately. I seem to recall the former, but I have Swiss cheese for a brain, so I wouldn't put much stock in my recollections.

Midi Manager used to be a free download from Apple. Perhaps it still is.

This archive contains a folder named Midi Manager, but I'm not sure if it's actually midi manager itself or support files...

I haven't tried it on a 68K Mac, but I mounted the cubase disk image and read the accompanying text file... it doesn't appear that there's any serial number required. I think the "protection" consists of having to boot from the original floppy (even when installed on a hard drive).

I'm definitely going to try to get this set up on *something*... it would be pretty cool to do multitrack stuff on a compact Mac.

I managed to mount correctly on the macintosh classic the disk image I downloaded. Unfortunately, upon booting it request the original Cubase 2.5 disk, claiming it is not an authorized copy.

Anyone has got an idea of how to get/buy/purchase an authorized Cubase 2.5 copy?

Have you tried making a physical disk from the image? I haven't had time to do anything with it, but all I did was mount the disk image and click on the Cubase icon and the program launched without complaining.

How is that done? I suppose I did it, otherwise, how would I be able to boot the program in the Mac? (besides the «insert cubase master disk» error...)

Which program did you use to build the physical disk from the image? I used PC_to_MAC. Perhaps you used a better program.... :?:

I did just the same and now I have got a Cubase.sit file in the mac Classic hard drive. How do I mount the image in the mac Classic?
