DOS Card in Color Classic?

I figured you guys would have the best opinions on this!

I see there's a DOS compatibility card for Quadra/LC 630 that uses both the CPU socket and the LC PDS slot. My question is, has anyone attempted to put this in something like, say, a color classic mystic? It does process video through one video output, but I haven't the slightest idea of it'd work on a built in screen, let alone fit in the motherboard and case. I know there's some afficianados out there who's bound to have both of them in close proximity, so: is this card modular, especially for the compact mac?

Hi,

The LC575 and LC630 motherboards kind of look the same but are architecturally quite different with a completely different edge connector. So no the LC630 DOS compatibility card won't fit on an LC575. You could go crazy though and do the "Takky" mod (require complete rewire of the CC edge connector, casing) and shoehorn an LC630 with the DOS compatibility card inside a CC. However, by the time you have done this mod you'll probably want to go a PPC board as the benefit of an '040 Mystic vs '040 Takky is not worth the extensive work, it's probably a downgrade.

I've posted recently about some trials using a 7" PCI compatibility card (Cyrix 486 era) in a "Takky" modified CC running a 6500/250 board, with additional 3.3V voltage regulator and lower power SSD. The DOS card works, kind of ... DOS and low resolution DOS games work fine, if dim, however anything needing 640 x 480 @ 60Hz (utilities, Windows 3.1 and 95) switches the CRT completely off. Monitor detection on the DOS utility is very basic. Needs more investigation.
