Disk stuck in IIGS 3.5' drive

Put together and started my IIGS after 25 years of storage. Everything seems ok, power goes on, screen looks good but there is a disk stuck in the 3.5 drive that I cannot get out. When I turn on the system, the drive spins and does not stop. When I press the eject button it stops but does not eject. Same when I insert a pin in the eject button. Help!!

Sounds like your gonna have to pull it apart and see if something is binding. When you use the pin/paper clip to eject the disk do you feel the release lever pushing back and the disk is just not ejecting? Make sure to push the release as far back as you can. Odds are good (if you haven't done it yet) your going to have to service the drive (new grease and a new gear for the eject motor - the common issues).

Thanks for the input. Using the pin lifts the disk but does not eject it. I haven't taken a drive apart before. I assume that taking the 4 screws in the bottom allows me to lift the cover and likely expose the disk?

Yeah... the case will come apart and expose the drive. There are some videos on YouTube that explain how to clean and re-grease the drive. Plus they'll explain how to replace the broken gear too. You'll probably have to purchase a new gear for it. Those can be purchased on ebay fairly easily too. I can send you links to them if you'd like.

Here goes another novice question. I have a Power Mac G4 M5183 and a G5 A1047. Used for work and they have been in storage for quite a few years. I want to sell them but don't remember if I cleared the hard drive. I don't remember either password. Any way to clear up the drives without powering up and using the password to access the drive? Should I just pull the drives off and sell without?

If you had the install media you could always format the drives are re-install the os.
I'll be in Austin on Thursday. What are you looking to get for the g4?

No disk so I suppose I'll have to pull out the hard drive. I also have the keyboard (M2452) and the mouse (M5769).
eBay is all over the place from $90 to $300 depending of the shape of the hardware. This G4 is in good shape and has been in dry storage since I upgraded to the G5 (that is also now in storage). Are you interested in the keyboard and mouse? What do you offer?
