Dim and Yellow display PB 520c

The lcd Seems dim, yellow tint and washed out. I just want to make sure it is the backlight before I start to look for a new one to replace mine.The caps don't seem to be leaking.

Is there a yellow tinge when the PowerBook is turned off? It could be more the polariser film/glue degrading. If not, it's a prime candidate for an LCD strip backlight.

Washed out, well it is a passive matrix display — but the dimness is likely the CCFL.

LED uses less power and is much brighter. The downside is that it's harder to control the brightness.

i went round-and-round and finally got to a simple solution. See what you think.

I had a similar issue with a G4 iBook, but changing the CCFL tube didn't fix the problem as I had hoped. Perhaps the actual problem was the LCD's laminations were degrading. The very expensive, circa 2007 Leica M8 digital camera's LCD had a similar issue, which has been dubbed "coffee staining".
