The lcd Seems dim, yellow tint and washed out. I just want to make sure it is the backlight before I start to look for a new one to replace mine. The caps don't seem to be leaking.
Is there a yellow tinge when the PowerBook is turned off? It could be more the polariser film/glue degrading. If not, it's a prime candidate for an LCD strip backlight.

I had a similar issue with a G4 iBook, but changing the CCFL tube didn't fix the problem as I had hoped. Perhaps the actual problem was the LCD's laminations were degrading. The very expensive, circa 2007 Leica M8 digital camera's LCD had a similar issue, which has been dubbed "coffee staining".
