It really depends on the system you're using... IIRC, the 512k can go as high as 4.1 and BackSplash II works for 6 and above.
So I don't think this version will work on your system. It has an extension, so it's good for System 6 all right, but I don't think 4.1 can handle extensions...

Nuts. That'd be a great program, if someone could write a minimal System file that lets you put a 512x384 1-bit GIF as a desktop picture. I bet it wouldn't take more than a few KBs of memory.

An uncompressed 1 bit picture the size of the Mac's screen is about 22k. So even if the "extension" (an INIT?) was minuscule it'll cost you about that much memory. Not a huge deal if you're using a Fat Mac mostly to run stuff that also works on a 128k but perhaps a bit chubby for comfort otherwise.
Were extensions even a thing on System 3 / 4 ? I dunno never used early systems yet. The 128k is being repaired right now. I'll get a taste of Finder 1.1g in a moment
