Dead Screen on a 5300CS?

A common problem is a bad flex cable or connections. If it's just the latter, often simply removing then reinserting the cable will fix the problem. In other cases, the cable tears near the hinge, necessitating a cable replacement (in general; they're very hard to fix well, so replacement is usually required).

Thanks for the advice! Checked the connections, still nothing. I guess the problem is with the screen itself rather than the cables.

Did you check the cables at both ends? The more troublesome end is at the edge of the LCD panel itself.

And the tear generally happens where you'd expect, where it flexes the most.

If all that seems ok, then you've got more serious problems. Try applying gentle pressure on various parts of the display panel to see if anything interesting happens.
