dead pb 100

while the site was down, i got my pb 100 in the mail! one problem, when i turn it on, the backlight just blinks. any idea why? ive already disconnected the hd, and reset the power manager. (who sent me the pb 100? i still owe u money! )

That sounds like the Power Inverter can't stay charged. I would recommend sourcing down a new Power Invertor for the screen

seesm like you have two problems a sticky hard drive - the low mb drives were prone to this. picking up another drive from a busted pb1xx can solve that. i took mine from a pb160. such a bad screen on that one.

anyway the other problem sounds like an issue that was covered in great detail in a thread that existed before the darkness came - and no is lost. (whoever posted that thread, post again?)

anyway - if memory serves there is a cracked whatjamacallit behind the screen housing, fixing or soldering that can solve the problem. it was a detailed thread too.

sadly i never saved it, which is a pity as it seems to be the same thing i have woth my pb100. my screen sometimes goes on other times it flashes and makes a clicky noise.

For the sticking hard drive on my powerbook 150 I put it on a flat surface and tilt the front end up and it most of the time works though if its clicking press the reset button. sometimes I have to do some weird combination of doing things like start up, remove battery , reset.

Is the lead-acid battery connected? If so, pull it out. If it's developed a shorted cell, it can load down the power supply and make it go into periodic current limit. This will prevent your HD from spinning up, cause clicking sounds, and make your backlight flicker a couple of times per second.

This can also be caused by a defective power brick, so if you have another one handy, try substituting it for the one you're using now.

would the power brock be considered bad if its putting out 8.05 volts?
