Dark screen Restart

My Bondi blue Rev. A does not restart properly. The disk is spinning up and sounds like loading the OS,

the Power button is green, but the sreen remains dark.

With Shutdown and cold start the Mac boots like it should - with monitor in use.

Do you have ideas how I could cure that?

It's possible that the Power Analog Video (P.A.V.) board might need replacing. This is a common problem with all the iMac G3 lines, "Molar" Power Mac G3 All-In-One and eMac models. You can find used good replacements on eBay and Craigslist. A lot more cheaper than they were in 2004; then about $300-$400, now about $25-$30 each.

Thanks for pointing to the PAV!

What puzzles me, when I exchange the iMac "drawer" from a Rev.A to a Rev.B that combo restarts all right.

Maybe I could move the Rev.A logic board into a PC enclosement and connect an old Mac monitor, if the mobo is good.

For replacements, you are a lot luckier in the US than in good old Europe.

Long ago (2003?) I got a free slot-loader that wouldn't start with a dead PRAM battery. The power light would come on and the drive would spin but no "bong" and no boot. As I recall removing the battery (or replacing) allowed it to boot again.

Yes, the PRAM battery is the usual suspect. I checked it already - 3.65V on board, that should do.

The iMac bongs and boots - but the monitor will only power up from cold start as mains have been disconnected beforehand.

Guess I´ll look for a used PC enclosure next summer on some farmers markets.

Already found a AOC TFT (for Win7 box) and a Canon LIDE (for Hackintosh) for 10€ each.

My Bondi´s display right now makes unfamiliar clicks, accompanied with some kind of flicker, similar to the de-gauss feature known from some Trinitrons.

I presume this tells me it will fail soon. :-(

Do you think so too?

PAV is probably starting to go

I'll see if I can dig up the Service Manual PDF for the Rev. A and Rev. B iMacs. It should provide some steps on checking voltages to narrow down which part is faulty. But it sounds to me like a bad PAV board. Again, quite a common problem for All-In-One Macs like that.

I connected a old Siemens TFT to the Bondi and that solved the startup issue.

Now I got two iMac "drawers",one almost dead iMac CRT and some random PC stuff, psu, pATA drives and other crap.

Is it a good idea to save the iMacs psu or wont that one work as standalone?

You can actually attach a photo directly to the forum software, and display the image inline on the page.

Also, you can use tinypic, photobucket, flickr, google picasa, for picture hosting.

must have appartments for millionaires neighbouring the Hamburg Philharmony.
