I'm excited! Just won a PowerBook 520 on eBay for a whopping $8.01 plus shipping! Only bad thing is it has no power adapter. Hopefully I'll come across one soon.
Even if you can't find a Power Supply, the HD in it is worth the cost if it works. Most of the 5xx series have at least a 120MB HD in it. Most have larger sizes like 320MB or 500MB.
I very nearly bid on it myself, as it looked in nearly new condition and as the price was certainly right. But I am pleased it went to someone on here who will appreciate it.
I may have a spare adapter and will keep an eye out in the next few days, when I plan to do some sorting.
What does that one look like, what are the specs, plug type? I never had a Blackbird but I do have some extra power bricks stored about - 5300 style, 1400 and Pismo style, one older duo type (I think) that came on a trade and some of the ones from the 100 series.
Hey, there's one up on eBay right now with a low starting price and 1 day 8 hours left to go. Replacement power run cord but the correct brick. If I were you, I'd try to snag that one!
Got it today! It's in pretty good shape. The tab for the screen latch is broken, but that's expected since I've seen numerous 520s in the past with broken ones. None of the plastic is cracked or anything. Now to hope it works fine when I get an adapter.
Ok, I got an AC adapter. Problem is, I think either the computer is dead, or the Adapter is dead. Stupid me for not having a voltmeter to test the adapter.
Computer does nothing. No power light, no noises whatsoever.
Anyone have a pinout of the adapter's plug so I can test it?
Yeah, didn't make a difference. It's like the adapter is completely dead or the computer itself is dead. I am currently trying to take it apart to see if the adapter jack came unsoldered from the logic board.
grab a 7 dollar DMM from harbor freight, or some other hardware store near you. its a chinese piece of crap, but itll measure if a voltage is present. my 520 gives me fits sometimes, i have to use the cmd-opt-control-shift-power or whatever it was to reset the power manager, before it fires up.
