I just scored a printer :beige:

I usually don't look at those, never print really... but this morning i spotted a Style Writer 2200 in a nice bag including PSU and serial cable.

Was mine for 5 Euros ($ 6.2)

Will be a nice match with the Powerbook 5300 and wallstreet, i love the dark grey color :)

The bag is a perfect fit, but not Apple badge anywhere... the printer was supplied with 5 ink cartridges as a bonus.

Also this morning, two brand new 256 Mo CompactFlash memory (1 Euro for both / $ 1.2)

It is a great little printer, actually, giving surprisingly good quality output.

Check to see that you have the bits and pieces for the printhead, which is a complicated design. There are separate B&W and Colour printheads as well as separate B&W and Colour inktanks: 4 pieces in all. Once you get past how that works it is not so bad, plus the ink is standard Canon and the tanks are the easiest I have ever seen to fill. You can actually see the sponge.

Tested, could not print anything in the first place, then dismantled the little thing and cleaned the rollers (the paper was not feed at all) ...and the test page started to print :)

Not bad for the money !

Check to see that you have the bits and pieces for the printhead,
I have got several bits :

* One new BCI-11 Color cartridges (inktanks)

* two new BCI-11 color cartridges

those should be good for printing B&W as well as color.

* two BCI-10 Black cartridge

To get only B&W documents i suppose.

I really wanted one of those back when I lugged around my first PowerBook, a 5300cs. Given my desktop StyleWriter and ImageWriter at home, and availability of networked printers at school it was never a purchase I justified.

On the comment about the separate black only cartridge: I'd typically leave the black one in until I wanted to print something with color. The B&W cartridges were cheaper (I think) and lasted longer obviously compared to the smaller black tank in the color ones. If you refill your cartridges yourself it's not as much of an issue.

I like old inkjets much better than the disposable ones of today. Easy to work on and fix (as you saw yourself) and you can pretty much run them forever it seems. I've got SW IIs and a 2400 (my first, bought new) that still work fine. Of course my IW IIs and LQ are still going strong too. In the time I've owned those I've bought and thrown away plenty of other newer inkjets. My current printer is a laser Brother HL-5250DN which I love. Networked, duplex, drivers from OS 9 and up. (May be able to get older OSes to print, haven't tried.) Still on the first toner somehow after a few years of printing. Someday I'll get to open that spare toner in the basement!

So anyway, I approve of old printers. Especially when they've got rainbow fruit on 'em. [8D]
