Color classic on the internet...

I have a color classic with a presto plus inside maxed out ram.. my question is... How can I speed it up the way it is now.. not buying anything else...

I have it connected via crossover ethernet cable to my g4 dual, the CC is running 7.6.1.

Thanks

Jim

(a) Often running a lower version of operating system will speed it up.

( B) limit the number of extensions you load at startup

© test between using OpenTransport and MacTCP for the particular application you are using.

ok what other enhancements am I missing for a color classic? I got the vram expansion in. external cd, a trackball... and yes I tried the settings and it did make the internet a little faster.. thanks!

People who come over are amazed that a 16 yr old computer still looks new and goes on the internet....

To porter's list I would add: Disable virtual memory, and perhaps elect not to load images automatically when browsing (or use a text-only browser, such as wannabe68k, although I am unsure if it will run on an '020-based Mac).

It sounds as if you've done as much as one can do with the original logic board. If you want better performance, you can perform one of any number of mods (including stuffing a G3 board in that compact shell). Google for Stuart Bell and Colo(u)r Classic, and you'll see just how far people have gone to upgrade the CC.

How much ram are you running with the Presto Plus? My Mystic has a tall 128mb ram strip in it. It is a bit awkward as you have to unclip the ram strip before the tray will slide out.

Do you say 68020 because the entire LC/CC family was based on the '020 LC and continued to use the same architecture with different CPUs? Or did you mean '030 which is what its LC II, & Classic II related predecessors used?

Actually, nothing quite so subtle -- I simply made a mistake! Mea CCulpa.

Try using RAM Doubler rather than virtual memory - there are some versions floating about on the internet.

Well now I dont have to worry about speed with the CC, I sold it on ebay. I needed to do some house cleaning, had too many computers on my desk. I got rid of my CC, eMac and dell pc. Anyways thank you all for your responses.

If you wanted to 'get rid' of your Colour Classic, I think it would have been nice to try to sell it here first. I'm sure there are people here who would've been interested in it. I for one have been looking for a Sonnet Presto Plus for my Colour Classic for a while...

Just a thought.

Rick
