The tray loading iMac would officially run 10.3 and 10.4 could be made to install on it.
My plan for using a tray loading iMacs motherboard was partly because I had a number of such motherboards from machines with dead power supplies and partly a wish to see OSX on a CC screen. Also it was the fastest motherboard I had that would fit.
Now that I'm actually thinking about I see that things have changed for me since then. One thing I have is a Cube I was given because it wasn't working after it was dropped. Reseating everything fixed that but it's still got a smashed case and no power supply. It may be a better choice for this mod. I'll have to do some measurements to see how it would work out

Could the G3 itself run OSX?
B&W G3s did, and while I couldn't manage it on my old beige years ago, XPostFacto might shoehorn it in?
