Color Classic: Leave the Rocker On or Off?

Scott Baret

Since I finally have a CC on my desk full-time, I am curious--what does everyone do regarding that rocker in the back? Do you leave yours on or off, and why?

wonder if an LC - II - III - 475 could be modded for soft power?   :)

i always turn the main power off.

but then again, all my systems stay in the shelf, until i need to test a board.

With the CC and the Mac Tv boards i flip the main rocker on and say a little prayer before I tap the power key on the keyboard. :)

Looks like I'll keep it on. I have noticed that about the battery. Hmm...do I even want to install that brand new battery with a 2014 date code that I bought now? Perhaps I should save it for the iMac, which needs one?

I have always left the hard power rocker on back in the days before soft-power only Mac's, going with the idea that keeping major components (caps, transformers etc) energised is probably going to be a little better for their longevity on a long term basis than repeatedly shocking them so to speak with power up and power down cycles. I may be a little off the mark, but it seems the better option to me. :)

Hmm, good point!! I know a teacher who uses two 550s and a 5200 every day (even today) and has always left them on. They get powered up every day and don't seem to have any problems aside from one of the 550s having some phosphor issues.

Yes, and you don't have to modify anything. :D  I've bought two of them.  They still make them for ADB Macs.   They're awesome!
