!!! Leading Edge Model D !!! And with the original monitor!

These looked so future perfect when they came out, and still look pretty sharp. Any thoughts on trying to hunt down the original floppy drives to tighten the aesthetic?

As you probably know, Stephen Kahng of Power Computing fame engineered this machine.

Wow lots of love for the Leading Edge! This is a DC-2010E with an Intel 8088 and a switch on the back for choice of 4.77 or 7.16 MHz. Was an amazing gift from a VCF forums member.

The machine and monochrome monitor work. The 5.25" floppy doesn't work and to your very good point @macinbot should sport dual 360k drives ;) And thanks for the Stephen Kahng history too!

This is definitely new territory for me. My PC experiences really started in the 486 era with Windows 3.1 (🙄). Haven't had the chance to dig into it and play with the system yet but looking forward to learning more.

Ah, OK.

The LQ is the wide format one, isn't it? EDIT: Never mind, LQ is for "Letter Quality", and it's basically an ImageWriter capable of much higher quality prints due to its 27-pin print head (all other ImageWriters, evidently, had a 9-pin head).

There was apparently also a wide version of the original ImageWriter, which is intriguing.

The big thing about the LQ is that it could do single-pass letter quality, which sped things up a LOT. I used to do LQ printing on my IWII, but it took 3 passes per line and was insanely slow and noisy. And even with the 3 passes, IWII "LQ" mode tended to be a bit fuzzy on the edges as the pins just weren't small enough for full precision, even with the fractional head offsets made on the 3 passes.

I remember that very well! Is it a safe assumption the LQ would consume less ribbon vs an IW II on LQ mode?
I'd expect so, kinda-sorta. It'd be more efficient anyway, and the wear on the ribbon would be less, so it would take longer to become fuzzy. I used to re-ink my own ribbons, so it wasn't really something I worried about.

Amazing haul at the VCF East Swap meet yesterday! Reposting from that thread:

Left to right
- The G3 desktop was gifted, I bought the 15 monitor
- Who can't use another 3.5" disk caddy?
- IBM Correcting Selectric III was in the free pile. This is my first collected typewriter, and it happened to have come from Steve Mac84! He was happy I'd give it a good home. It's also the same series my mother used, she was a professional secretary in the 1970's and 80's.
- Bought the Dell CRT and bought the Dell KB and Mouse from @Dude.JediKnight (also watched his store for a bit)
- The iMac G3 was gifted, I bought the KB and puck...very happy to have my first matching Bondi Blue system!! :) - update I have since learned bondi and blueberry are actually different colors
- The HP LJ4 Plus, an epic workhorse you just could not kill so long as rollers and fuser were regularly changed, was another gift along with NIB toner
- And last but most certainly not least, a former datacenter fire extinguisher. That's definitely going in my office!

The iMac G3 works less the hard drive, still have to try out the PM G3 but other than the missing Zip drive it's all there

This morning I decided I should set up a permanent photo studio to have nice consistency with shots for vintagecomputerrental.com This landing should be easy to control and once I get a backdrop, decent tripod, and some lighting i should be in good shape

Ah, the 1998-2000 Presario minitower. Father had a 7478. Not that great of a machine. The 5630 at least looks like it has a PIII, instead of an AMD K6-2, like the 7478.
