Classic boot problem

I turned on my Mac classic which was working flawlessly and not I do not get a chime but I get a pointer in the top left corner..no visible issues on the board.

Any ideas?

The SE/30 has a similar issue when SCSI chip is bad:

don't know if the Classic can be the same, never had this issue.

Try removing the HD, FD and memory board if available for a test first.

hard disk failure usually also, try booting from the rom, as its the only mac that can natively.

In the last few days, my recapped and perfectly working SE/30... seems not to recognize its internal Hard Disk - floppy disk icon with question mark blinking appears at start up - and doesn't boot even if HD is spinning and HD light is blinking. 

It can boot with floppy disk; for example with System 7 Disk 1 Installer, but then even the Installer doesn't see internal HD... After some restart, Mac boots normally and everything seems ok, even turning it off for a couple of minutes and restarting it. But if I leave it turned off for more time, i.e. some hours, the problem appears again.

I remove clock battery, reset PRAM and re-install OS, but the problem still persists...

Do you have any ideas? In your opinion, should it be an HD problem or maybe something else?

Probably HD failure, a lot of them are bad nowadays.
