Centrix 610 VRAM?

I just finished recapping one of my Centris 610s.  Logic board was in good shape, no real cap leakage.  I didn't boot it up before recapping (prior boot before that was probably 3 years ago) but I'm sure the recap didn't cause my issue.

Most screens look OK (see Welcome to Macintosh).  However, I'm getting some weird artifacts (vertical lines) on certain shades (title and scroll bars and on some icons (see Note Pad and Scrapbook).  I have booted with a different device and the problem persists.  I'm thinking VRAM, but the chips HM538123AJ-8 don't seem to be available anymore.  I have searched and haven't found this same problem elsewhere.  Any recommendations?  I would test the lines from the VRAM chips for continuity but the board has multiple layers and I'm not sure I could realistically visually trace where they go.

If I change to 256 greys or 16 colors the problem goes away.

Wow!  I googled and cam up empty handed. Thank you for this. I am going to run techtoolpro to see if I can confirm bad video ram then have my AmeriFriend order and send it to me as their shipping costs to Canada make those inexpensive vram chips rather expensive.

It would be great to narrow down which chip is bad but I'll just start on one side unless anybody has any thoughts?  Desolding and resoldering these smd chips will be an experience.

Quest Components has them in stock.  Looks like they run about $5 per chip, plus shipping.
