Can't get internet to work

On a PowerPC 6500/225 with freshly installed OS 8.6. Got a D-Link DFE-530TX+ network card, installed the Mac OS 8.1 -9.2 driver. Really all it was is a file that I had to put in the Extension Folder. But whatever I do, it will not connect. Any suggestions ?

Did you check that the card is selected in AppleTalk Control Panel?

Well, that's the thing, there's nothing to select in Appletalk Control Panel.

In the TCp settings I put it at bootp, but after reboot.....nothing.

Well, whatever I tried I could not get it to work. Got a copy of OS 9, installed it and voila! Internet is working.

if you want internet via a standard ethernet network (like what windows machines ocnnect to) then you have to amke sure the AppleTalk isnt connectiung though the Ethernet by going to the AppleTalk control panel and either disableing AppleTalk or selecting it to a onborad Serial Port. in the TCP/IP control panel and set the conencton to the Ethernet then set it to DHCP or to manual and enter the information for conencting to your internet in manualy.

Appletalk can connect through the ethernet port along with the TCP/IP control panel. I have all my old machines set up that way with absolutely no problems.

What the heck are you talking about? First of all, you can definitely run AppleTalk over ethernet and TCP/IP over ethernet simultaneously. Secondly, the OP's problem is that he doesn't have drivers for his ethernet PCI card... No amount of fiddling with the AppleTalk or TCP/IP control panel will make the PCI card work without the correct drivers installed.

Well, whatever I tried I could not get it to work. Got a copy of OS 9, installed it and voila! Internet is working.

Yeah, I got one of those cards. It requires OS 9 MINIMUM

So, yeah, you are stuck with 9 if you want to use the card. On another note, OS X ships with drivers for it built-in, starting @ 10.2. just an FYI

So how did you determine your card is a D-Link DFE-530TXE?

Is this the same card you were talking about having Delta LANF7236G printed on it in Powermac 6500 slow?

No, this was an old PC card I had laying around so I went to the D-Link website which said it was supported under Mac OS 8.6-9.1

I would like to find the drivers for the Delta card I have because OS 8.6 runs much faster then OS 9.1
