BRAND NEW iMac! (G3-powered!)

Clearly the sensible course of action is to hire a 24/7 armed guard and surround the box with a moat. Lasers probably need to be in the mix there somewhere.

Just buy some Aperture Science Sentry Turrets.

Now fires the WHOLE 50cal bullet.

i have a iMac right now, 350mhz,

some one tried to install OSX on it with out updating the firmware!

so i tried to blind boot from os9 cd, put it to sleep, wake, etc nothing, dead video,

there is one thing i tried however and i was able to make it show me some RED or GREEN or BLUE Tinted faint video!

Blind boot off os9 cd, wait, hit power button to sleep, wake, then plug in network cable, you can hear the cd drive access for a second

while it acquires an ip, then i un plug power(while on), re-plug power, tap the power button (turn back on)

and some kind of video does come up, its a gamble wether it's going to be a SHADE of RED/GREEN/BLUE… i've been able to replicate this…

back about 4 years ago, i bought like 200 of these imac's and sold them all through CL,

i made the mistake ONE time of installing OSX with out checking the firmware rev… in that situation

i just did the VNC trick, this time, i received this one a long with that boat load of mac's last weekend…

i knew right away what the issue was when there was no video and the hard drive was removed…

im not sure why the network cable enables the " what is seems as " the rescue mode,

but it works.

now i have a 40 gb in there… with os 9.0 installed,,, you need 9.1 installed to update the firmware!

but i keep trying to install the 9.1 update i have and its saying that i need a mac os 9 US ENGLISH version installed.

i am pretty dam sure that is what i do have installed… this issue right now is making me want to throw the imac in the back yard lol

Brings back memories, I bought a new 350mhz iMac like that when they were new. Loved it. Sadly iMacs now have their plastic fadded and internal plastics cracked, I still have my 700mhz G3 iMac (the newest G3) and while she is old and tired she works like new. Wish I could find a purpose for her today.

GREEN SCREEN! :-)

Installing mac os 9.1 so i can FINALLY update the firmware!

a little patience never hurts :)

Moral of the story, make sure your NIB iMac has its firmware updated before you try to install OSX on it :)

Congrats. I've got the rev. b of the original bondi imac only mine is scratched, dinged, and has minor breakage inside :'( , and also no longer has it's stock cpu. 333mhz sounded better.

P.S.

Nevermind that's it's like a third-hand computers (at least two previous owners).
