Blueberry iBook Clamshell £21 on eBay

It has arrived !!

As described, 300mhz, 288mb, 3gb with a dead battery and cracks around the apple under the screen + the plastic on the handle

No airport card, 10.2 was installed but I found the seller's account and formatted it straight away

Plans - put in a 10gb hard drive with 10.4.11 already installed, a USB wifi dongle (drivers etc already on Tiger drive)

- resell and put the money towards a Pismo

You might not think it's such a good deal if you plan on replacing the hard drive. Getting inside those things is a notorious PITA.

 
It's a hard repair, I must say, but not the hardest I've done. I did this upgrade to my Graphite with a 20GB HD, it dissassembles the laptop completely, just to get to the HD.

 
3 to 4 hours last time on the Indigo, swapped the hard drive out (hence the Tiger donar for the Blueberry) + changed the CD drive for a combo.

I wish I'd thought of doing the FSB overclock at the same time, I may be tempted to go back inside it for that some time.

Hopefully this Bluberry won't take so long as I've done it before, may have a go over the weekend.

Could be, or a Pismo. If in doubt, ask them to turn it over and read the specs off the compliance sticker on the bottom.

Seems like they go cheap if the seller a: does a bad advert and b: finishes the auction at a silly time when everyone is at work (except us shift workers :D )

Also, just missed out on a Lombard that went for 21 pounds (I bid 20). I think it was a Lombard, I spent hours looking at pics and specs trying to find out.

It looks like a Lombard. It's hard to read, but I think it says "PowerBook G3" under the screen as opposed to the Pismo which just says "PowerBook".

Bronze colored keyboard and a white Apple at the top of the LCD. Definitely Lombard.

 
If possible, I'd go for a regular AirPort card and skip the USB dongle. Airport works effortlessly and at least here in the States, they have gotten really cheap over the past year os so. I have purchased 3 original AirPort cards this year, and never paid more than $20 combined for card + shipping. The last one I got for $9.85 shipped. Also, if you're going to run Tiger, max out the RAM. My 366MHz indigo struggles with Tiger and 576MB of RAM installed. I just have 10.3.9 on my Graphite 366 with 320MB and left my 300MHz Blueberry at OS 9.2.2

Reckon so, that's what I went on to identify it. Never mind, it's gone now.

I've already maxed out RAM and installed an Airport card in my own Indigo and it's not too bad with Tiger, but I bought the Blueberry to use up the spare parts from mine and to be quite honest sell it on, so I won't be going through any extra expense.

That also perfectly describes the Pismo ;)

As mentioned though, that machine reads "Macintosh PowerBook G3" under the LCD, making it a Lombard.

 
Right, the Blueberry is finished, with 10.4.11 on a 10gb hard drive and the USB wifi dongle. Taking apart and upgrading etc took far less time than before, just a couple of hours....

...... Idly looking on eBay I found this and won it - an Indigo clamshell complete with KP. Looks like a re-install will fix this one as long as the hardware is OK

I'm not going to make a habit of this as a couple of years ago I had an eBay laptop business - it didn't work out because most of what I bought as working was rubbish and dishonestly advertised, so it cost me far too much for parts to make them ready for resale.
