Best Mouse you used?

I'm a fan of Logitech optical mice. My current favorite is an MX Revolution wireless. The tracking is excellent, the batteries last a while, and the scroll wheel has a better feel than that on any other mouse I've tried. Plus it has this switchable mode where the scroll wheel spins freely up or down, so you can give it a flick and quickly scroll through a document or web page. And the wireless dongle is small enough that it's easy to switch it from my Mac to my PC when I have to dial in to work.

The only down side is that the thumb control requires too much force. I hold the mouse with light fingertip pressure, but I have to squeeze it firmly to operate the thumb control.

I've never met a mouse that I really loved.

Something like a "Mighty Rat" but with three real buttons and no scrollwheel would be my ideal mouse.

For the classic Mac OS, either the ADB Mouse II or the Pro Mouse (black). For other systems...i personally really quite like my Microsoft Mobile Memory Mouse 8000, its a little wireless notebook mouse that can switch between either RF and bluetooth. I personally can't stand most "mini-mice", but this one is actually really quite comfortable, fits into your hand really well, and since it supports RF (and therefore has a dongle) runs on any computer that supports a USB HID device. Really, pretty much anything Microsoft is good, even their old ball mice are damn good, if you ask me.

I have to agree. Being an original Mac user I agree with the "one button is best" because you can never push the wrong button, but also being an X11 user, I like three button mice, it wasn't until scroll-wheels came along that every two button mouse effectively became a three-button mouse, you can't paste without that middle button!

I recently tried to use an original pre-ADB Apple mouse and they are truely awful, how was it that we thought they were neat?

I prefer trackballs... I use a ADB Kensington Orbit on my 68K machines and a Kensington Expert Pro Mouse on USB stuff.

If I had to pick a conventional mouse, it would be the original Apple optical mouse... comfortable shape and only one button! I also don't mind the puck mouse or the ADB wedgie, but I agree that original Apple II/ Mac mouse was a clunker.

"one button is best"
I was watching the xerox star demo from digibarn, and the guy joked "we went with two buttons, even mac has 2, one on the mouse and the other on the keyboard"

kinda tickled me

The best one I have used believe it or not is a no-name GE-based PS-2 Optical mouse. Second is my MacBook Trackpad (full trackpad is a button) and third is my Logitech Wireless Mouse. The Mighty Mouse comes in fourth and Trackballs come in fifth.

Don't get me wrong, trackballs are awesome, and I would prefer them over most PC Trackpads, but with the jitters my fingers get, it's hard for me to control them. I guess with a little motor-skill training I could master it. But currently, I have no trackballs that aren't ADB

BTW, I have an ADB Kensington 2-button Ball mouse. Awesome mouse, but the ball tracking SUCKS

Dynex WOM-2 hands down my favorite. Next would be the original Pro Mouse since it had the option to adjust clicking pressure. My vaio's trackpad, the one laptop without markers saying where scrolling is. Just figure it out. :)

The current IBM mouse is probably my current favorite. (It is still available as an IBM product, not Lenovo, at least it was a few months ago). It's got two buttons, a red scroll wheel, and is basically a good no-nonsense two-button scroll mouse with a USB connector.

The only mouse I really can't stand is the Mighty Mouse.

I really don't mind the mighty mouse (my mother-in-law has one), but to be honest I'm still living in a one-button world, so everything other than the scroll nipple is lost on me.

the best mouse that i have used.....hmmmmm.....id say its the acer optical mouse that i got from our computer downstairs (yes we have a pc in the house 8-o ) when we got a new one.

If you check out the Lisa schematics, you'll see that it was designed for a two button mouse but it was never implemented.

MS wheel mouse optical, simple reliable, and cheap.
Much truth in that statement. The MS Wheel Mouse costs (in volume) about $2.50 US or £2.00 UK. The equivalent Logitech costs the same. You can buy either with corporate branding (+10 US cents, subject to volume) to advertise your white box PC manufacturing company.

Perhaps you hate the form of the mouse on the computer at work, but you'll be in a minority. The manufacturers have done such a good job that few users think or care. Unless the devices are weird, mice just work as mice.

Hats off to the creator of the scroll wheel. Twenty quid to 68KMLA funds if the creator worked for Microsoft.

I like big trackballs, probably because I am used to a trackball since having used my first PowerBook 180. And I love Trackpads, as you can use those things silently. Both trackballs and trackpads require much less space on a desktop than a mouse in use. ALPS provided external ADB trackpads for the Macintosh, with two buttons and configurable to support tapping, dragging etc. An external trackpad is a perfect mouse replacement for presentations or similar circumstances. It works perfectly even wearing examination gloves.

(Sorry, but no multi finger taps or gestures up till now.)
