Best compact mac for retro gaming

macaddict - A SE/30 would be an excellent choice for B/W games.

As for upgrades, 16 to 32 megs of RAM would be fine as most games uses little RAM. Anything more would be overkill for a game, unless you absolutely need it for other things. A nice large hard drive would be great for this. You  would not need an accelerator for games on the SE/30, it would make them too fast to play if you used one. You could have it and then disable it for games but use it for other things like desktop publishing.

Depending on the System you will need Mode32 to access all that RAM.

For the future, you will need a recapping of the logic board and parts replacement for the Analog Board. This is true for all classics from the 128K to the Classic II and even for the Color Classic and the color AIOs LC Units.

The best compact is probably a Color Classic with an LC 575 motherboard, but that'd be cost prohibitive.  So would an SE/30, even if you didn't care about color.
