Best 68k Paint program/image editor?

Looking for a drawing program that can run on a System 7 68040 that supports color, and hopefully some kind of swatch system, as well as an undo history. Also, I'm NOT looking for a vector editor (like Illustrator) What program best fits the bill? I've already tried Painter 4 and Kid pix but neither are quite what I'm looking for. (Unless someone knows if you can set up swatches in Painter 4).

Would Photoshop work?
Maybe? I might try Photoshop 4 (I've used photoshop 3, albeit on IRIX, and it was kind of a pain to use, so I'm a bit sour on it).

To be honest though, I'm looking for the closest Mac Analog to DeluxePaint on Amiga, to do pixel-style (or at least nonaliased) art. Looking it up, Studio/8 or Studio/32 might fit the bill, but from screenshots I can't see if they have a swatch like DeluxePaint does.

Ooh sounds like a solid setup. I would love a desktop Mac II of some sort - all I end up with is compact Macs and PowerPC stuff 😅
Hey now, I love my other macs - Especially my SE30, Classic, and G3 minitower. They all serve some kinda purpose.

But yeah, especially with the 040, the IIci is kinda awesome to use. Highly recommend.

True. I'm in talks to potentially get a Quicksilver 1GHz G4 tower with a Zip drive, so while having a desktop 68k Mac would be cool, you're right - they all serve their own purposes.
