ATI Mach64 colors...

It occurred to me yesterday that the colors on my fine Power Computing 604/150 looked a bit odd. Mostly the Mac face was pinkish, rather than blueish. Upon closer examination and a trip into Photoshop, I discovered that on the RGB sliders, Red is blue and Blue is red. The ATI card has both a standard VGA plug, as well as the 15-pin plug, and the color issues appear regardless of which one is used. (And the 15-pin-to-VGA adapter I used to test works fine on a 7100/66av.) At first I thought that some strange color profile had been set on the OS 8.6 install, but I unplugged the HDD and booted off of a 8.6 CD-ROM and the issue was still present.

Any ideas?

My first guess is a failing video card.

If you have another card, or internal video try using those and see if the problem still persists.

Also you could try resetting the PRAM and /or CUDA switch if your machine has one.

Finally after that I would start looking at the system RAM and swapping in known good modules if you have any and see if the problem is still there.

Also I would strip the machine down to the bare essentials needed to boot it and slowly add hardware back in 1 piece at a time until the problem reappears. It could be that everything just needs to be re-seated in their slots.

I tried the easiest solution first, which was to reset the PRAM and CUDA. No love. I'll borrow another Mac PCI card and see if that's an issue, then swap out the memory if the problem persists.

PICNIC. Problem in chair, not in computer. Also, if you have a KVM that uses RJ45 between the system and the KVM switch, DON'T use a crossover cable with it.
