ATA Redemption

Internal ATA 0: CD-ROM + CD-RW

problem is that both CD Drives do not work together. If CD-RW is set to MASTER, CD-ROM is SLAVE, only CD-RW is working. If both are CABLE SELECT only CD-ROM works ...

Internal ATA 1: HDD

specs:

G3 A/V mini tower - 333 MHz

384 RAM (512 MB stick (only 256 used, do not know why) + 2x 64 MB)

What revision ROM? I think the early Beige G3's didn't support secondary drives at all, also B&W rev 1 had corruption issues on secondary drives.

yep you were right, it was the ROM thing, just replaced the ROM from 333 motherboard and it works now! thx

the story:

I had two g3 mini tower computers, one 233 working and 333 not working. So I replaced the CPU but didn't bother with ROM, hopefully I didn' trash the old motherboard yet ... anyway anbofy know what about RAM? Is ti broken?

No. Just unsuitable for the model. All three Beige G3 machines were specified for 384MB total (max.) of RAM with then-current technology, and the desktop version had also a height restriction on the DIMMs. Later SDRAM production accommodated the height restriction and enabled 256MB DIMMs for use in all three versions. However, a 256MB 168-pin PC133 CL3 SDRAM card was then and is now as much as a Beige G3 of any kind can use in a slot, for a current maximum of 768MB.
