Apple IIe PDS Card in a Quadra 950

Has anyone ever tried getting an Apple IIe PDS Expansion Card to work in a Quadra 950 PDS slot? I am thinking about making a retro machine and I was like "yeah lets throw in Apple IIe"...

Anyone helping would be great...

I read this one site wiki say: "However, other models that have an LC-compatible PDS slot and support 24-bit memory addressing are compatible with the Apple IIe Card but are not officially supported. Systems 7.0 through 7.5.5 support both 24- and 32-bit addressing on suitable Macintosh models. (From System 7.6 onwards, Macintosh system software does not support 24-bit addressing.) To enable 24-bit addressing on supported systems, use the Macintosh Memory control panel."

Answered my question using mactracker.

The LCs and such have an "LC PDS" Slot, where as the Quadra 950 has "PDS" Slot...

Uh, the LC PDS is completely, totally incompatible with the 68040 PDS. Not going to work.

Quadra 605, maybe, because it has an LC PDS. But it's not going to work at all on anything without an LC PDS. Not on a NuBus-only machine, not on an SE PDS, not on an SE/30-IIsi PDS, not on a 68040 PDS.

What he said. Plus, it must go in a machine which can be switched to 24 bit addressing (in the Memory Control Panel). So, even though the Q630 and its relatives have an LC-style PDS slot, the IIe card will not work in those machines.

The Q605 (AKA, LC475, LC476, P475, P476) is probably the fastest machine in which it will work.

As a person who has owned both a Quadra 950 and an Apple IIe PDS card, I can tell you that there is absolutely no way to put a IIe card in a 950. The IIe card requires an LC PDS slot, which the 950 just doesn't have.

Yeah...it won't work. As others have said, the LC PDS slot was totally different.

The idea at the time was that the schools that bought Macs would be able to run all their old Apple IIe software (regular consumers and hobbyists were *not* the market).

The Quadra 950 was *not* the type of machine that schools would buy...that was the Mac Pro of its day.

The LC was the type of machine being pitched to the schools. I have gotten the Apple IIe card to run in an LC, LC II, LC III, Quadra 605 (really an LC) and an LC 575 and Performa 578 (really the same as the LC 575). I just got a Color Classic and stuck the Apple IIe card in there, but haven't had a chance to play with it yet.

I can't remember the Apple Tech Info Article, but there is one somewhere that tells you exactly what Macs you can use it in.

Oh, and you have to be able to turn off 32-bit addressing (and use 24-bit addressing) so that limits the Macs you can use (no PPC's) and the OS (I believe OS 7.5.5 is the top OS you can use).
