Apple II!!

no, not an original, but a Platinum IIe. After playing with one 3 years ago, and amassing a huge pile of accessories (5.25 and 3.5" floppy drives, external modem, printer card, apple branded serial cable, apple presents floppy, etc.), I figured it was time to get the actual machine. It should be here next week.

From the looks of the auction pic with the hood popped, it looks to have a Super Serial II card (dead giveaway - the 2 banks of dip switches in blue) in slot 1, and a disk controller card (the one with the 19 pin connecter, just the one I need) in slot 6.

so whatcha think? I might have to give it a bath when it gets here, the top cover looks to be a bit filthy. I'll take it all apart and wash the case, and maybe the motherboard.

after a month of waiting, I finally got the damn thing sometime while I was away the past 3 days. It works just fine, has a 5.25 disk controller card in slot 6, and a Super Serial II card in slot 2. The SSC needs screws for the port on the back plate, but other than that, it's perfect (except it's missing a foot ). Now I just need to get it running something other than a ]*

for those that do not know, to boot a IIe (and I had to remember how to do this), when you flip on the power, you get Apple //e at the top of the screen, it is scanning for a disk. Then you press control+reset, and you get to the basic prompt.

I tried my 5.25" drive with the Apple Presents disk(my only II disk), and it the drive kept spinning no matter what. Anyone want to help me out here?

I also tried the Apple II game server, with my long serial cable hooked to the SSC (DIPs set according to the link on the A2GS site), and no luck. possibly because I am using a USB-> serial adapter (one belkin makes for PDAs), with no drivers, but it shows up in ASP. That right there might be the problem.

However, it all works, and I am happy.

never played with anything more than a IIe. Have always wanted a gs, of course.

you still need to make sure that the drivers are installed. if not the game server wont see the port

I just set up one of my IIe's on my desk. I have it sitting under my 20" Dell LCD, which has a composite input, and setup a serial connection (Keyspan PDA Serial-USB adapter) to my G4. I haven't messed with the Apple II game server yet, but I got ADT Pro working.

I have some known working disks and drives, so I could test both your floppy drive and disk to see which is bad. I don't know much about fixing a bad drive however.
