Apple Color Plus 14" Display repair

I recently picked up an Apple Color Plus 14" Display, but sadly it doesn't turn on. I made sure it was discharged, then started poking around. I found out that the fuse is blown. Thanks to @trag for his post here explaining it was a common problem.

What causes this problem? What value fuse should I look for? If I replace it, will it just blow again?

Thanks for any help

You can replace it with the same value fuse as is already there, but replace it with a "slow blow" fuse, not a quick (fast?) blow fuse.

I also recommend installing a fuse holder in case you must revisit the issue.

As to the underlying cause, there was a claim about the cause, way back when, but I can't remember what it was any more. You'd probably need to search through comp.sys.mac.hardware.xxx in Usenet (Google Groups has the archives, I think) to find the answer. We're talking discussions from the 90s. Sometimes it can be difficult to get the Google Groups search function to give you the old stuff.

That's where Macintosh discussion and buying/selling happened before ephemeral web fora became common. To be clear, comp.sys.mac.xxx is where that discussion happened, but .hardware is probably the place to look for monitor repair advice.

Awesome, thank you so much! Sadly, I can't tell what it says on the fuse... it's too old and dirty. I can read it better when I get it out. I'll look around through Usenet.

Another issue is why the fuse blew in the first place. If there is a larger issue, the next one will just blow again.
