Apple CD300i Plus use with SE30?

Hi there

So was a bit bored and managed to clean up and get running my Apple CD300i drive with caddies. So connected to my SE30 it sees older audio CDs (without sound!) but not any CDRs. I have tried with various formatting options but no joy? Guessing the sound issue requires an external amp and speakers? I want to get some old OS7 - 7.5 programs and data back onto the SE30

Any advice? I only have access to a fairly modern iMac or 2014 MacBook and CD writer and USB floppy drive to use as tools….

Thanks in advance

C

What OS and extensions have you got installed on the SE/30?

CD-Rs need to be written in very low speeds (1-2x) to work well with a 300i drive. Even so, the 600 I think is better at reading burned discs.

Many thanks, well will have to make do with the 300i for now…. Any suggestions on the best MAC utility for setting drive speed on an iMac and what would be the correct formatting option on the disks?

Burning the cd on a modern Mac to use in a vintage Mac can be problematic if certain steps aren’t observed. First off is burn speed as mentioned but also the actual CD brand itself can also be an issue among other things.
Audio CDs need and external receiver and speakers or amped computer speakers. The audio will not go thru the internal sound without software to specifically make it do so, even then it’s limited.

Take a look at this site as they cover almost everything vintage Mac.
