Apple CD 300 External =)

Los Angeles to Chicago! This Apple CD survived a journey not only throughout it's long life, but in this box (taller than perceived in image) with zero packing! I am so excited that it works My last CD 300 had a magic smoke session. This is first time that an item I bought is functioning after flipping around in a box without packaging. Long, long ago I got an SE with a working 20MB HD sent to me with 1, yes ONE page of newspaper. The HD was dead and the case was cracked! ;D

I don't know if I should bring up to the seller (ebay) that his/her packing techniques need "help"

Well, at least we know they're tough... The fact that the case is mostly metal except for the faceplate probably helped.

I'd make sure the feedback you leaves mentions this. While their detailed star rating system allows you to rate the speed of shipping unless it was free or a local pickup (which I know this one at least wasn't the latter), it doesn't allow you to rate the quality of the packing. I believe they should, this is a perfect example of why. It's pretty impressive it did arrive undamaged with such a shameful packing job. You could leave a neutral overall feedback rating, but I think that's a little harsh. I'd leave a positive feedback and say the item while it was as described it was negligently packed loose in a [insert box dimensions] with only one layer of bubble wrap. I'd also contact the seller letting them know it did arrive in one working piece despite their inadequate packing job. It's your call of course, but that's my two cents. If they had just put in some cheap packing peanuts (or at least some crumpled newspaper) it would have made a world of difference...but I'm preaching to the choir now.

I like those old drives. I think the caddy drives, while adding another step in loading a CD, are neat. I scratched fewer CDs when they all lived in their own caddies. I've got a stack of those and the 150s. I've only got one 300e and 600e tray loaders which are part of my personal collection. There's at least two AppleCD SC drives (the ones with the same footprint as the compacts) in storage that are untested too.

Your new conquest looks great next to that Mac Classic.

Upon closer review of the second picture, is the metal case get bent up from a side impact or was it like that already? Or am I seeing things?

(Don't forget to leave space for the air vent on the Classic! )

My winning price was $22!+$14 Shipping :lol: . The box is a ReadyPost box, the ones USPS sells for a few bucks. This was basically brought inside USPS and thrown in the box! I think the dents are an illusion in the picture. The only real imperfections besides scratches, are from the plastic face plate which is not molded perfectly. The box on the other hand has a few rather violent dents and holes from the scsi ports and the feet.

I would have been angrier had I paid a lot more for it but come on..$14 for a $2 box...I'd even take an old 25 cent goodwill blanket or sweatshirt instead of nothing whatsoever to protect this thing..

$22 plus shipping is a good deal. The flat rate boxes are $14.65 for a large, $10.85 for a medium, $5.15 for a small...those are the online prices, slightly more at the post office. I'm guessing it's a large (it certainly isn't a small ), if that's the case they charged you actual cost. Still, if you don't buy cheap peanuts or have them stored from prior incoming shipments like we've said you can at least fill that empty space with SOMETHING...old blanket or clothing works fine like you said...balled up newspaper will do it if you use enough...whatever. I always make a point to make sure items are well packed; but I worked in a shipping department for a while and did that every day (sometimes into the night if the volume was high enough...) so I've seen the results of a crappy packing job and know better. Of course as a collector I've seen toys show up damaged due to dopey ePay sellers.

I like to think that's one good thing about buying and trading here. We're all collectors who care about what we're shipping, not just someone who'll say "file an insurance claim" and still have your cash while not giving a crap, or benefiting by selling you another with your insurance money. (Double your profit and save time by doing a crappy packing job on stuff you sell online!!! The only cost is your soul.) Alright I'm done with that for now. You can laugh, and people may not always do it intentionally, but there's truth in there.

Anyway, that's good to hear that what I thought I saw was just the picture playing tricks on me. The SE/30 is a sweet little compact too, congratulations on that incoming conquest. Can't wait to see the pictures when that arrives.
