Apple 40SC hard disk

I found a 40SC on ebay, the seller reduced the price for me, total £45 including shipping which I think is pretty good for one of these.

It is quite yellowed but apparently it powers on and the drive spins, so I can only hope it works...

If it doesn't work, I will convert it to use a SCSI2SD.

I will recap the PSU and retrobright it as well, it's going to go nicely with my SE/30.

Here's the ebay photo...

Nice find. Those are such great boxes. And they convert great to a Scsi2sd holder if they’re DOA.

I'm glad to report, it has arrived and works very well. The activity light does not work, but other than that it's absolutely fine - it's not even that noisy.

It was used by a Church of England school from 1989 until 2002 or so, from what I can tell.

It has PageMaker 3.5, Microsoft Works and is full of school files, lesson plans, posters, etc. The drive is almost full, but there is a LOT on there. You can store a lot on a drive when it's just text and small bitmap graphics.

Next steps are a recap of the power supply / fix the activity LED and eventually deyellowing when I can get hydrogen peroxide cheap again.
