Apple 16" Color Monitor questions

IMG_6818 2.jpeg

I recently got a nice looking vintage Apple 16" Color Monitor that had been in a hot garage for the past few decades. It had obviously been used quite a bit, but the tube has no burn and the case is in nice shape.

After cleaning it and giving it a cursory inspection, I powered it up and connected it to a computer. It works, but the tube is dim, out of focus, and the geometry is touchy. Sub Bright, Sub Contrast, and other settings only help a little bit.

On the neck board, closer inspection showed there is one leaking cap and a couple that have slightly high ESR.

Most of them are 85 or 105c and 20% tolerance. Easy to replace. I made a list of all of them and am going to order a new set and see what that does. At worst, it'll make a good starting point to test the rest of it.

I'll probably have to reacap (a bit of) the main board too, but that is the next task on this monitor restoration project.

Now, all I need is a high voltage probe and info about what the flyback voltage is supposed to be set at.

Has anyone else fixed one of these monitors? If so, any other things I should look at before I make my parts order?
