Another 1400cs

Going to pick this one up on the weekend. The guy said it had CD and floppy modules, ethernet cards, fax modems, SCSI adapters and lots of software. He said it was in good condition except for a dead battery. Sounds better than my current unit which was pieced together by its former owner.

I did not get any information on the RAM, CPU, or HD size so that is going to be a surprise.

Picked it up today

1400cs 117mhz/40mb/750mb

Floppy Module

CD Module

Battery (untested)

Ethernet PCMCIA

Modem PCMCIA

SCSI HDI 30 to SCSI 25 Pin Adapter

Bunch of software (will post the list later in case anyone wants an image of it)

Original CD Software, OS 8.1 & 8.6 CD

I plan to replace the 750MB with either a 2GB or a 6GB. I have a 133mhz and a 166mhz...is it possible to replace the original 117mhz with either one of those CPUs?

Photos to come.

You can only mount the 166MHz module in the 1400 it came with. The 133, the third-party 180MHz and the G3 module are the only upgrades for the 117.

Nice bundle of accessories with that one :)

At least I can upgrade it so it is a bit faster.

The HD is being a pain and freezing a lot when using OS 8 while trying to read a CD and other things. I think I will replace the HD with something bigger before I toy much more with it.

It was a good haul...$20 CDN for the lot is not bad.

Now I may have a lead on a few 1xx series and a 3400...

There is not a 6GB HD in. Runs much better however the CD drive is flaky at best. It will read the OS 8 and 8.1 CD but not the 8.6 CD. It will also not read Duke Nukem 3d (disk error) but has not problem reading the MOOII disk. Very odd...

Now that you have a >4GB internal HD, make sure you never attempt to mount the 1400 to another Mac in SCSI Disk Mode. There's a non-fixable firmware bug that can lead to data corruption on large drives.

At least with the 133MHz module you get L2 cache, unlike the 117
