Coius, those all would have been Li-Ion cells, not LiPo cells. My 2008 GF8600mGT MBP15 has a LiIon battery, and I'm pretty sure all of the plasticbooks with removable batteries did too.
That having been said, something is probably wrong with how you're handling or the build on that specific RC battery you're using if it failed that massively.
I've got a LiPo battery from the T400 (the ultrabay battery which I used for a few years) and have got to say, I'm basically not scared of it. Although it's totally spent so I should consider having it recycled, since it serves poorly as a weight-saver or power-saver, compared to using the empty UltraBay hard disk holder.
If you're so scared of batteries though, my advice is to own zero notebook computers, handheld gaming systems, mobile phones, tablets, and cameras. Then you won't have [very many] batteries to worry about. You can probably keep a UPS around if you'd like, I like to suspect that most of those are still based on lead-acid batteries.
