A Macintosh II Makes An APPLE Store Appearance !

Not a "real" Apple store. It's a specialist/auth. retailer. If you read the macobserver article you'll see how they literally threw away hundreds of old Macs and they used - not old Mac IIs - but Mac IIfx comptuers to make the couch. What a waste of rare IIfx'es.

I would think they made that couch before the IIfx had much collectors value (2001 was not too hot for 68030 Macs).

Besides a large couch would have cost a bunch of money compared to recycling those IIfxs.

I wonder if the motherboards are still in them. They could all be salvaged out. On second thought, they probably had to fill the cases with something to strengthen them, so they're all ruined.

I think they are, do the packrats here have 2 dozen of them between us (I have 2)? This is where I would expect many to have ended up.

Our local privately owned Mac store uses old compact Macs as (gasp!) DOORSTOPS!
The poor SE/30 really makes me sad, whenever I see it out in the rain...
That really sucks. If I had a store I would have various old Macs doing some task in the store. For example they could be cash registers. About 10 years ago I went to the Rice University bookstore. They used Macs as their cash registers and it was really cool. I'm not sure if they're a Mac school anymore though - University of Houston certainly isn't > :(
