5400 (LC)?

Why do people (Wikipedia and others) list the 5400 as "Power Macintosh 5400 LC"? I've seen tens of dozens of 5400's in my lifetime, and none of them ever make any mention of "LC".

Just curious.

Can't say, not knowing. It could also be considered a perverse act, because in my sample of one the Mac is clearly labelled Performa 5400/180MHz on the press-in panel, and, separately, DIRECTOR'S EDITION PowerPC with a graphic of a director's chair. It is, however, a black Mac.

The first models of the 5xxx series (5200/75, 5300/100) used the LC name, so people may incorrectly assume it carried over with newer models.

It's like people who insist on mangling Apple products by labeling them as MAC, or McIntosh, or capitalizing the 'i' in iMac, etc. There may be no explanation other than ignorance or, more probably, indifference.

The local recycler calls all Apple products "iMac". I just go along with it, because he knows exactly what I want when I say "iMac" - that is, anything Apple related, including random SCSI drives.
