So I picked up a cheapish five inch composite PAL/NTSC TFT LCD in a car roof mounting. It runs on 12 volt 4 amps, folds up/pops down, swivels about 30 degrees each left and right and is NOT widescreen

But the retards from Cash Converters stuck the security/price tags - two of them (it was marked down) - right on the LCD.

I've managed to pick off most of the RFID antennae with my fingernails without scratching the screen, but I'm now left with horrid, horrid glue residue right where the image should appear (haven't powered it up yet).

I'm considering acetone or pure isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol and cotton swabs. Just thought I'd ask in here for advice - I don't want do nasty things to the TFT or any coating it might have.

Goo Gone works the best I've used it on a couple of the 17" LCD's I have. It is a bit expenseve but well worth it as it does not take much. Just let it soak for a few mins and your good to go

I second goo-gone. It works great and have used it to clean up a lot of stuff, including sticker residue on LCDs.

I had someone do that with a laptop that I got from someone. Their kids played with it without the guy knowing and stuck unicorn stickers and crap all over the 15" LCD (it was a Pentium 3, but man was it awesome! 32MB Discrete graphics at a time when the max on a desktop was 32!!!). It took a few hours to do it, but it didn't destroy the screen, and removed all the crap the stickers had put on after sitting for a few years on the screen.

Goo-gone is great stuff for this purpose. It doesn't seem to harm the plastics at all, but it sure gets the sticky stuff to go away.

Citrus ahesive removed from the supermarket will work well, not too harshly and leave you with a sweet smelling TFT :) There is a product I use at work (medical) called "Remove" by Smith and Nephew which is designed to remove adhesive from a patient's skin from old sticky dressings. It's works amazingly well for really stubborn stickers but can actually cleans too well, often making things look as if they've been sanded back.

Nice score, I've got a PSOne 5" TFT I've been meaning to VGA mod for ages but never had the supported video card for it. I'm thinking of resoldering it back to it's original state, and use a Playstation AV breakout box so at least it works using composite input.

Thanks for all the hints, guys. I'll see what I can find down the supermarket and hardware. Can't wait to fire this puppy up

Well, apart from resurrecting a couple of eternally procrastinated hacks, I bought it to use as a rear view mirror in my truck, with a camera.

It could end up anywhere ... as a display for a miniature living room iTunes server, stuck to the front of a G4 tower, built into a plywood and shag carpet ghetto blaster...
