400k external drive

I have a problem with a 400k external Apple drive. I can put a disk in and gently push it down to seat properly (drive obviously needs a clean), the drive will read the disk, and then eject. The disk still shows up on the desktop and I can load files (asks me to reinsert) and once the file is loaded the disk ejects again. Huh!?!?!?

I found it interesting - plugged into my SE, it detected I had put in a double sided disk and asked if I was sure I wanted to initialise it.

It always successfully ejects first time but sometimes keeps running the eject mechanism 5 times...

The 400k will probably need a good servicing, never had to work on any but IIRC also auto-inject, so should seat on it's own.

Probably just needs new grease to make the inject thingy work smoothly.  It may be still suck and thinks it needs to eject the floppy.

Cheers for the tips, I'll open it up and give it a good service.

Yeah, plugged into my 800K SE. Thought it was cool that it could detect an 800K disk in a 400K drive and avoid you inadvertently formatting it.
