3dfx Voodoo 5 PCI: What resolution via DVI?

The old Voodoo 5 cards produced for the Mac just before 3dfx went bankrupt had a DVI as well as a VGA connector. Has anyone perchance tried connecting a current DVI monitor to one of these? Does it work and what resolutions are possible? (NB: I know, I know, they run only under OS8-9.)

I suspect that connection to the VGA port would likely give a max. resolution of 1600x1200 on a typical 20" multisync crt monitor. However, according to the best information I can find, at http://www.3dfx-altar.com/content/voodoo5/ , the Voodoo 5 PCI was capable of supporting monitor resolutions up to 2048x1536 (it came with 64MB of video RAM). So I am wondering if it might be possible to to drive a current widescreen DVI monitor with one of these beauties.

I have a voodoo 5 (currently in service in an 8600) but no DVI monitor to test with it. Can anyone advise, before I even contemplate spending any money, whether or not it would be worth my while pursuing this further?

I got to digging around on this subject, and discovered to my surprise that in a great and mighty pile of Mac junk in the basement, I actually have the box that the Voodoo 5 5500 came in. I hadn't remembered that. No manual, alas. What the box says is that BOTH processors on this card work in tandem, with 64 MB vram.

An XLR8 review, however, speaks of how an early driver disabled one of the processors - a problem fixed later on. I haven't confirmed that myself.

I discovered on the box too that the resolutions supported are as follows:

1152x864; 1280x1024; 1600x1024; 1600x1200;1920x1080; 1920x1200; 1920x1440; 2048x1156.

Well, Apple's current 23" LCD is optimized for 1920x1200, as are many others that run at half the price....
