3400 #2

could it be that the battery is dead since the seller doesnt have the power supply??
/me hands virtual piece of cake

Yes, that's what I was thinking, and I really hope that I have a pristine Mac coming my way.

I've wanted a 3400 for years. But I'm not willing to settle for anything other than top processor spec and top cosmetic condition.

And auctions for 3400s that match those criteria usually exceed my price range.

The seller really didn't know what he was doing, IMO. The one that I got earlier was completely busted but came with the 128MB RAM stick, so it was a steal of a deal, even if it didn't work. I am going to use the RAM card in the one that's coming. Which raises one question: Will most OS 9 apps run on OS 8.5/6?

And it arrived! I'm not too happy about the cosmetic condition but it should be easy to clean off. I haven't gotten around to testing it but its floppy drive is crushed just like the other one's. :(

How did that happen? Poor packaging?
I don't know, the disk just won't go in the whole way.

It was, in fact, not able to power up, but that's because the hard drive caddy was missing and this one part was loose, I simply put my existing caddy in and it boots. w00t

I'm always suspicious of auction descriptions written like that, ie. all capitals with spelling mistakes and bad grammar. It can mean the seller is not comfortable around computers which thus gives good grounds to question their description of the item as non working or otherwise.

Glad to hear it is working - you got a good bargain. Try opening up the floppy drive and have a look inside to see what's snagging the disk. The PowerBook drive modules contain quite delicate pieces of metal which are easily bent, so it may just be a case of straightening something out.

Ah, mmkay. more details now: it's the 200mhz model, currently running OS 9.1 with 144MB RAM. I have iTunes working on it and the battery lasts for nearly 2 hours. the floppy just refuses to work and the connector is all bent up.
