2 PowerBook 540c

I just received 2 PB 540c's that I won on eBay for $59 including shipping. One of them is supposed to be running 8.1. I'm gonna check them out :)

sweet. I love my 540c. it's git the full 36mb of ram, 320mb HD running 8.1. I just wish the batts worked. they are both dead. it's like a Q605 for the road.

I just went through them and one of them is in pretty good shape (just a few scuff marks on the case). It had no HD drive so I used a 500 MB spare one that I had sitting around (System 7.5). It has 20 MB RAM.

The other one is pretty beat up (plastic cover under the sreen is missing, port cover is missing, battery covers are broken, lots of scratches, and the screen is wobbly). I think I'll use it for parts.

Does anybody have a link to a page to fix a wobbly screen/loose hinges (the link that I have is dead). Thanks.

My 540c is exactly like ours, digital! ...but the Q605 is 25 Mhz - not 33Mhz like the 540c.
ok, then, smart guy. It would be just like an overclocked Q605. I know, I have done it to my LC III (the 68030 version of the Q605), turning it into a LC III+.

or, we could phrase it like "it is just like iamdigitalman's overclocked LC III, except with a 68LC040 inside."

lawls.

THe easiest fix for loose hinges is to pop off the hinge covers- squeeze the fatter end of each, and pull upward on that end only. Once loose, the other end is just held down by a tab that sticks out of the cover inside the case. tighten the screw under there and you should be good to go- anything loose may be just a overworn hinge (replace) or loose mounts in the display assembly

On mine (520) you have to squeeze the bit of plastic at the bottom of the screen on one side to close the lid - if you don't it either makes a loud clicking sound as you close it, or it feels very reluctant to close, as if something would break if you kept closing it. The casings on these machines do seem a little temperamental :(
