2.0 DC G5 -> 1.8 DP G5 Case Swap?

Does anybody know if its possible to swap the guts of a 2.0 GHz dual-core/PCIe G5 into the case from a 1.8 GHz dual-processor/PCI-X? I have both on the way from ebay. I bought the 1.8 first since its supposed to be in neat mint shape with airport extreme, bluetooth, keyboard, and mouse. Then I saw what looked to be a pretty good deal on a 2.0 GHz dual-core model though the case did have some marks. Given the complexity of even the air-cooled G5s I'm doubting this is practical. I'm not going to get into hacking anything up.

The ports on the rear of the case are different; the dual core machines have dual ethernet ports at the top of the port string while the dual processor machines have one ethernet port on the bottom. So you would have to do some hacking there, at the very least. Also, the DC models have the bluetooth/airport antennas built in instead of external antenna connectors.

Other than those obvious differences, I don't know if the rest would work. Let us know how it goes if you try it.

If the ports at the back differ, chances are everything else in inside will differ too (motherboard risers, connectors etc). Considering taking apart a G5 case is not a trivial matter (I'd put it as the worst ever desktop Mac to completely tear down), those "marks" in the better G5 had better buff right out :)

I concur with that statement. After examining a battered G5 case I partially disassembled, it probably would be possible to totally disassemble the case and swap the rear panel to get the proper port alignment, but not something for the faint of heart to attempt.
