1GHz eMac today!

Today I drove about 75 kilometers to pick up a eMac listed on Kijiji for $160CAD. Its pretty sweet. Although it only had OS X 10.2 installed with 128MB ram, I put in a 256MB stick I had laying around, and slapped 10.4 on it, and now it works great. Its very responsive. I'm thinking on using this as my main system, at least until my Gateway laptop bites the dust and I can get a Macbook Pro.

Welcome to the eMac Club! I own a 700 mhz one and they rock. slightly loud and heavy but nice nonetheless. I am not sure if this model is one of those that has the leaky caps but watch out!

Mainly 1.25 GHz models suffered from leaky caps. You can look at the caps next to the RAM to see if they are bulging. Apple will still replace these boards for free as long as they still have boards in stock. When all the boards are used up (or 5 years after the eMac was sold), it's over.

Apple stated somewhere that they only keep parts in stock for 5 years (7 years in California). Perhaps after 5 years they send the remaining bits of stock to California, but what happens to the remaining parts after that?
