1400c burn in power chip

Ok before I label this dead and cry about it, here is a picture. There are two matching chips that are side by side. The one that is burnt is an exact duplicate of the one next to it. Can I transplant a new chip there? Do I look for a matching chip that has 9435A on it and I am good? I am just gonna take a stab at this as the rest of the 1400 looks amazing. 40 megs of ram and a 1 gig hard drive. CDrom and floppy for 20 bucks shipped it would be nice to repair.

thanks for any help. Link to photostream and pic just in case.

I ordered a new IC chip that is a NDS 9435A but says 606 instead of 642 on the top. It was only a couple of dollars shipped so well see when it comes if it will fix all my problems.

Still would love any insight, thanks again.

If it doesn't work, I've got a donor on hand, I'm pulling most all of the components off this DOA 1400 MoBo to noodle out the slow I/O bus. I could be careful with one or two. ::)

that would be outstanding, i would appreciate that. Just PM me an email so I can cover shipping and such when you get around to it.

It may be a bit, try the one you ordered first, that way we may have a source for replacements. I located them on the PartsBoard . . .

. . . dang, those are tiny little suckers! 8-o

Yes they are, three if them. I'm going to cut the legs and solder to the nubs because those legs are so close.

i would use a heat gun, sweat the bad one off, new one on.

if you want to send me the chips and board i could do it for you man.

I've found a burned section near the AC adapter socket. Different components, but a similar cause of death. I'll likely be moving back on to the 1400 projects soon. Now that I've got the SCA adapters working in the IIsi, it's time for some fun! I'll also be playing around with a friends DOA electronic bagpipes, so the soldering station will be set up and running a bit sooner than I was anticipating.

But you wouldnt have a way to test it and it would cost too much round trip for the whole thing. I could get another I am sure for that. I have to be a little cost effective or the wife will get pissy lol.

I'm going to try the plastic welder as a soldering/de-soldering hot air pencil. I've always been leery of the heat gun for electronics other than for bake & shakin' the components off an entire board. Maybe I'll try that again with the other two chips on this board after using braid on one of them.

I'll definitely have at least a couple of functional boards left after sorting through the 1400 pile. Bad stress cracks in the lid will make a fully functional 1400 a PartsBook with just a cursory examination as far as I'm concerned.

Bad engineering of the lid and heavy use makes for a high failure rate and food for hacks! }:)

Honistally, you do have to mask, and you do have to be careful, I've got it down. No bake and shakin goin on here.

Dunno, gotta pick over the carcasses. What speed do you have now and do you want to upgrade? If you've got your sights set on a MaxBook/G3 it doesn't really matter which board you use.

I am pretty sure its the first. Just looking to get it running but would tke a board/processor upgrade since it should just fit in. I like the macs to work so its fun to use them. So anything that works with the original 117 processor or if you have a combo that will work that would be sweet.

In that case I've got several 133s and the L2 Cache on that card will bump the speed of your cacheless RoadApple1400 more than the measly MHz bump!

Got any token trade goods? :?:

Well thats a great question. Most of what I have are road apples other than the few good finds I have posted. I just started back up early the year before last so my stuff is pretty beaten up. Might have a powerbook 5300 I could part with, or an 12 mhz SE accelerator board?, I have a mac portable minus the motherboard (which I gave to uniserver to try and get him back up and running) non backlit of coarse. It is tough when I know you have things I am pretty sure I dont have. Got a powerbook 190 also I could part with, Its apart because I was swapping ram and hard drives but it works also, same as the 5300 unit of course.

I lost most of the parts for my 190, so we can surely make a deal if you're OK with that. How much RAM have you got in your 1400 and in what module config? Maybe I can throw some of that into the deal to make up the difference?
