128mb 72-pin SIMMs for a 6100, 8100 etc...

Finally noticed 128mb SIMMs being sold (at a reasonable price) on eBay...

The first one I bought worked in my LC475 and Quadra 630.

Strangely enough, the SIMM doesn't work on the DOS PDS card for the LC 640 I have (it works on the Mac motherboard OK). The PC card has a black screen on power-up. When I put the 32mb SIMM back in I noticed the post screen only has enough numbers (during testing) for 99999KB... BIOS and/or chipset limit?

Anyway, has anyone put 128mb SIMMs in a 6100 (up to 256mb) and had it work?

Or an 8100 for that matter (up to 512mb). That'd be great with a G3 accelerator...

While I don't have an answer for you (apologies), I do have a question: What are the search terms you used to find this? I've used "128mb 72 pin ram simm". Are there any other parameters that are important?

yes i have, it works

also you can load the Q650 up to 512 megs ram, with a Dougg3 rom, and Rob Braun's image...

While the 6100 will work with 128 MB SIMMs, the 7100 and 8100 will not.  The logic board runs the upper address signal and the RAS select lines through a CPLD, which apparently expands the number of SIMM sockets at the expense of SIMM module capacity.   In brief, the 7100 and 8100 won't address more than 16MB in a bank, so a two bank, 32 MB SIMM is the largest supported.

I've post some HP and Samsung part numbers for 128MB SIMMs which are good search terms.  The Advanced Search feature should turn them up.  The postings are few years old.
